Show #025: Josh Holmes
The Indianapolis In-Tune Podcast
This is the fifth of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit and features Northwest Indiana singer/songwriter/musician Josh Holmes. Along with being the infamous triple

threat (possibly quadruple -- I don't know for sure if he dances or not), Josh has some innovative, interesting ideas concerning grass-roots marketing tactics. So innovative, in fact, that he's
actually gotten radio exposure in serveral out of state markets all over the country, including charting in Hawaii, and having his music featured on national television. I must admit, one-on-one
interviews like this always make me nervous. With a full band, I can generally sit back, say very little, and let the guests play off of each other. Single guests require a great deal of research,
preparation, and planning to determine what topics and questions are going to be most interesting to the audience as well as the interviewee. Fortunately, Josh is a very easy interview who displays a
great deal of natural wit, intelligence, and charm as he talks us through four excellent tracks from his last two releases. Important links from the show. Josh Holmes can be found on the Internet
here: Web site / MySpace His last two CD releases, A Table 4 One and 2nd Generation Loss can be purchased directly from his web store. During the natural course of the conversation, Josh and I
discovered that we were both students of Professor Glenn Gass when we attended I.U., and we both wholeheartedly recommend his various courses in the History of Rock and Roll. Speaking of rock
history, Josh recently played his dream gig at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA.Our Kammy's Kause segment for this episode features a meet and greet with the show's MC, Mike PotempaAnd as with all

day, an engineer -- not exactly a job that affords you very many opportunities to be creative, as certainly the laws of physics are somewhat rigid to say the least. Both Chad and Bob are talented
musicians who talk at length about their musical history together, the trials and tribulations of extremely brief encounters with random females, and the pros and cons of blowing off work to write
music. As this is the first in another triple-shot of shows, please forgive the short blog and lazy show notes: The Chad Mills Band can be found here: Web Site / MyspaceHis latest album, 2 Places @

This is the second of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit (and apparently the fifth and final in a series of bands whose name begins with the letter 'S'). I have to
admit I was somewhat nervous about this one. They didn't seem to have any biographical information I could research ahead of time, I missed about half of their set to record Show #021 (If you pay
attention, you can in fact hear Say playing in the background all through the Shadyside Allstars interview), and even MC Mike Potempa, who had been introducing me to the bands that day, could only
offer, "I really don't know anything about those guys. They seem really quiet." Death knell for a podcast ... or so I thought. As interviews go however, these guys were among the easiest to work
with. As unprepared interviews go, I think they were pretty friggin' awesome -- a very intelligent, prepared, down-to-earth group of guys who have great stories, quick wits, and some excellent music
that they shared with us. By way of quick review: Their debut CD, Cornfields to Concrete is a wickedly diverse collection of seven tracks that has a little something for everyone. Hip hop, funk,
strait-ahead rock, acoustic folk, are all represented ... and represented well. Sadly my own personal track, a slow, bluesy, almost swing-lounge style number called "Baroness" is not represented in
this podcast, though it does now feature heavily in my personal "Best of Indianapolis" playlist. Important links from the show: Say can be found on the Internet here: MySpace / Web Site The debut CD,
Cornfields to Concrete can be found on CD Baby and iTunes, or can be purchased directly from the band. The CD was produced by Wes Styles and recorded locally at the Pop Machine, with vocals done at
the Mother Ship in Hollywood, CA. And as with all of these seven shows, we need to thank the following people: Kammy's Kause for putting on a great eventtheIndy.Net for bringing us to the dance

This is the first of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit, and as I explained in the outrobabble, it's a long one. Unfortunately, there was a lot of great music, one
hilarious interview, and a lot of supplemental material to cover, and I would rather go long than cut any of that great stuff out. I promise, the rest of this series will be back in our 45-60 minute
format. The Shadyside Allstars are a group of virtuoso musicians who play a very tight style of improvisational, "jam band" music. As such, they have built a huge following not only here in
Indianapolis, but also around the rest of the midwest where they regularly play small and large venues as well as festivals. As a further word of warning, portions of this podcast are probably not
suitable for more sensitive ears ... I don't think it's quite as potentially offensive as, say, the average interview with The Dirty Third ... but certainly it's somewhere between PG-13 and R, hence
the explicit tag -- and the disclaimer we stuck at the end of the interview. Either way, you have been warned. Important links from the show: The Shadyside Allstars can be found on the Interet here:
MySpace / Web Site Additional tracks from the band not included on this podcast are available in the media section on their web site. For those of you who don't want to dive in dumpsters outside a
Goodwill store looking for "Head" (or for those of you who wondered what the hell we were taking about), you can actually purchase "Head" here. Remember: "Head" is officially endorsed by the
Shadyside Allstars as a road-tested source of supplemental revenue equal to or greater than standard musician scale wages. And as with all of these seven shows, we need to thank the following people:

This is a show I've been waiting to do for a while. I first met Sweet Dilemma back in September through a mutual friend. It took a while to get schedules coordinated, and eventually it was Johnny
Lyles at Lonewolf Media Entertainment who just sort of dropped them off at my favorite watering hole one night and told me to come record a podcast with them. (He apparently found them wandering
aimlessly around the streets and persuaded them to get in his limo with some candy he keeps lying about for some reason.) The "interesting" thing about strange face is that they maintain a unified,
straight-forward rock and roll edge, despite varying musical backgrounds and tastes. The "truly unique" thing about them is that they play an all-ages friendly, PG-Rated set, yet still manage to
appeal to both younger and older audiences alike -- no shock tactics, no gimmicks ... they do it using nothing but straightforward rock-and-roll. And, you have to respect that! Important links from
the show: Sweet Dilemma can be found on the Internet here: MySpace / Web SiteTheir debut EP can be downloaded from most music distribution sites such as Napster, Rhapsody, iTunes, and Sony Connect.
They have also produced videos of many of their popular songs which are available on YouTube. For those of you who have not done so already, sign up for an account and submit reviews of their music
on GarageBand.com.The band occasionally does benefits to save school music programs along with the band 650 North (MySpace / Web Site). While we think that is an admirable cause, we also think you
should help to save Internet radio, which is currently under attack by the Copyright Licensing Board.
